Meat Smokers

I need some info on those meat smokers that people sometimes in thier yards. Clearance? Fuel? Regulations?

    According to the SFM, these smokers, as they typically utilize a low level of heat produced by a charcoal, wood or gas fired flame are considered to be open flame cooking devices as referenced in the 2011 OFC, 308.1.4 through 308.1.4.1 and therefore the same rules would apply. The rules as listed would be applicable to all use groups under the scope of the Code, typically anything beyond 1,2 and 3 family dwellings.
