Annual Building Inspections Requirements

The code does not specify the frequency of inspections. Section 106.2 of the IFC Commentary states as such. Each community determines and assumes its own acceptable risk level. This should be based upon the objective evaluation of factors such as type and value of occupancies and property, life-safety risks, suppression resources and of course fire prevention resources among many other factors that can be taken into account. It is even acceptable to establish different frequency schedules based upon occupancy type. The key is to establish a consistent process based on sound risk management and document inspection schedules in written procedures or by city ordinance.
