Smoke Alarms Malfunctioning

Our department is experiencing false alarms with Kidde Photoelectric smoke alarm model P9050. We have experienced this issue with 12 of the 150 alarms that we have installed in the last year.  After further investigation we have found that a small amount of dust is causing the smoke alarms to activate. We have contacted Kidde and have made them aware of the problem. We are asking other departments that are experiencing the problem to contact Kidde at 1 (800) 880-6788. This will allow Kidde to track the issue to see if this is a nationwide issue. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

 Respectfully,

FROM NEOFPA:

We have also received information on another manufacturer’s photoelectric smoke alarm that is going into full alarm for no apparent reason. It is: BRK (First Alert) Model P 1210. (Ten year sealed battery). Manufactured in 2015. Manufacturer phone number: 800 – 323 – 9005.

October 19, 2016: Another smoke alarm with similar issues has been reported. First alert model 7010. This is a 110 V with battery back up alarm. These alarms are older. They are stamped May 2012.

We ask that if anyone is having similar problems with a photoelectric smoke alarm, to comment back on this post with the details and to contact the manufacturer and, if possible, return the malfunctioning smoke alarm to them. Hopefully they will send you a new replacement and test the malfunctioning alarm to determine the problem.
