Commercial Occupancy Signage

I am trying to research the idea of placing signage on commercial occupancies that have special construction hazards. For example, occupancies that have basements with no visable sign from the outside that there is a basement. The idea was brought to me by my chief as a safety measure for responding firefighters.

Does anybody have any experience with this or any recommendations?

Fire Inspection Fees

Our FPB in Maple Heights witnesses annual inspections of fire alarm systems, and fire suppression systems. Along with these inspections, we charge fees to the company performing the test. Our city council is considering increasing the fees to the following amounts:

-Annual fire alarm test: $25 increased to $50
-Annual sprinkler test: $25 to $50
-6-month hood: $10 to $30

Other fee increases that are being considered:

- Plan review for new system: $50 to $100
- Fire alarm install: $50 + $2 activation device

I am looking for input from surrounding departments to see if they charge fees for inspections, plan reviews, etc, and what they charge.

Fire Trace Suppression Systems

I am looking for information on the Fire Trace Clean Agent Suppression Systems. In our city we have a business that is looking to place this suppression system on 45 CNC type machines that are cutting titanium. My question is- Do these machines have to be tied into the building fire alarm system or can they be allowed by code to be a local alarm only? Any other information or knowledge of this system would be helpful.

Temporary Trailers

Blazemaster CPVC Sprinkler Pipe

Has anyone had any issues with Blazemaster CPVC Sprinkler Pipe in their cities? We have a facility in our city that used Blazemaster that is only 2 years old and we have had 4 known leaks, 3 in the last two months.

Addressable Fire Alarm Systems

I am looking for information on how addressable fire alarm systems have to be dispatched from the central alarm stations. If you have an addressable system does the central monitoring station have to dispatch it as point specific or are they allowed to dispatch a “general” fire alarm? NFPA 72 Section 23.14 deals with Off-Premises Signals. Would this be the correct section or is there another area in NFPA that deals with this issue?
